05 Jun 09 My father in law has terminal cancer
We’ve just found out this week my FIL has terminal cancer, he had an operation 2yrs ago and he’s on alot of medication so sometimes he’s not himself, the family have decided not to tell him because it would totally “freak” him out. He’s riddled with tumours, theres 2 on his lungs, one on his spine, one on his back, one on his bum, one that has broken a rib and a few more. We have all just about come to terms with it even tho we are all devastated, the problem i have is my 7yr old son, he no’s grandad is poorly because he’s in hospital but thats it, can anyone advise me on how to go about telling him that his grandad is not going to be around much longer but we can’t tell grandad?? i don’t want to confuse him but also i want to be honest and truthful with him. Even tho my son has lost animals before and has coped very well with the truth, this will be the first person my son has lost in his life. Thanks.
